Compression tights – when should you choose them?

For moderate varicose veins, swelling and leg fatigue, doctors recommend wearing compression hosiery of the first compression class (18-21 mm Hg). Such underwear reduces swelling, improves blood circulation and normalizes venous outflow.

But what to choose - knee-highs, stockings or tights? Each model has its own indications for use. In this article, we will tell you for which diseases and individual characteristics of a person, compression tights will be the best choice.

What is first class compression medical hosiery used for?

Class I compression underwear exerts moderate pressure on the tissues of the legs - it is highest in the ankle area and gradually decreases from the bottom up. That is why you should not be afraid that compression tights will squeeze your stomach too much - they are very comfortable and easy to wear.

Class I compression hosiery is most often used for mild to moderate chronic venous insufficiency - for example, against the background of varicose veins or venous valve failure.

You should think about medical underwear if the following symptoms appear:

  • heaviness in the legs, their rapid fatigue;
  • swelling;
  • night cramps;
  • the appearance of spider veins and "venous mesh".

When are compression tights preferable to stockings or knee-highs?

Knee-highs are considered the most popular model of compression hosiery - they are worn by both women and men. And tights are often associated with women's or even children's clothing. But when choosing medical underwear, it is not gender or age that is important, but the extent of varicose disease.

If the veins of the shins are affected, you can really get by with knee-highs, if the process has spread above the knees - stockings are needed, and with significant varicose veins (up to the pelvis), only tights will help.

Other situations when you need to choose compression tights:

  • chronic venous insufficiency with impaired blood outflow not only in the legs, but also in the pelvis;
  • pregnancy - especially if the woman has previously had problems with veins;
  • work associated with prolonged standing - tights provide continuous compression from the foot to the abdomen and help to avoid swelling in the ankles / thighs;
  • overweight or obesity - compression tights can be more comfortable because they do not exert excess pressure on the hips;
  • condition after severe injuries and surgery - if compression support is required for both the legs and the abdominal area, medical tights are the optimal solution for the patient. They prevent the formation of blood clots in the veins and also reduce pain during the rehabilitation period.

Advantages of compression tights

Compression tights have a number of advantages (in comparison with knee-highs and stockings):

  • they are convenient and comfortable to wear – when you put on tights, you don’t have to worry that they will slip down or squeeze your shin or thigh too much;
  • they exert graduated pressure on the tissues of the entire leg, not just a separate part of it (for example, the shin) – due to this, they effectively relieve swelling and fatigue of the legs;
  • they provide abdominal support – this can be important during pregnancy or after abdominal surgery. Tights “unload” the pelvis and lower back, thus reducing pain.

What do you need to know about Lauma Medical compression tights?

Lauma Medical compression tights are made of nylon (64%) and lycra (36%). This composition provides them with elasticity and allows for graduated compression on the tissues of the legs. They have a toe, as well as a reinforced heel and toe part - for better wear resistance of the product.

The tights are available in 3 sizes and will suit a person of any build. To choose the right size, you need to measure the circumference (feet, ankles, under and above the knee, hips, waist) and compare the results with a special table.

Important! Measurements of circumferences should be taken when the legs are the least swollen.
