What is sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is a very popular method of treating varicose veins. It is easier to tolerate than conventional surgery and is less likely to be accompanied by complications. During sclerotherapy, the doctor injects a special solution into the vein, which “glues” the walls of the dilated vessel and turns it into a fibrous burden.

But, if you do not take care of the veins in the postoperative period, very soon you will have to return to the vascular surgeon.

Why do I need a compression garment after sclerotherapy?

In some cases, even after sclerotherapy, the blood flow in the vein is restored, and the person again faces the problems that forced him to go to the surgeon. To prevent this from happening, and need special medical compression underwear (socks or stockings).

Therapeutic effects of compression knitwear:

  • pressure on the muscles and, accordingly, the walls of blood vessels, which accelerates their “gluing” and does not allow blood flow to recover;
  • improving the outflow of blood through the veins, preventing edema;
  • micro-massage of muscles;
  • reduction of unpleasant sensations - pain, swelling in the legs.

What kind of compression underwear is needed after sclerotherapy?

To reduce the risk of complications or reoperation, vascular surgeons recommend medical knitwear of the second compression class (23-32 mmHg). If sclerotherapy was performed in the area of the feet or lower legs, compression socks are suitable. They are liked by men and women, easy to remove and put on, comfortable to wear.

For people with sensitive skin, cotton compression socks are the best option. Their composition includes organic cotton (60%) - more airy and softer than ordinary cotton.

Important! Organic or bio-cotton is 100% environmentally friendly, hypoallergenic material.

Also compression socks contain lycra (35%) and nylon (5%), which ensures their elasticity and durability.

Thanks to the absence of the toe, these socks can be worn under open shoes, with deformed toes or feet, with excessive sweating of the feet.

What else are cotton compression socks without a toe for?

Medical cotton socks are not only worn after sclerotherapy.

Phlebologists also recommend them for other diseases or conditions:

  • varicose saphenous veins in the lower legs;
  • severe symptoms of CVI (chronic venous insufficiency);
  • telangiectasias (vascular asterisks) on the legs, especially if there are a lot of them;
  • night cramps in the lower leg muscles;
  • swelling of the legs, pain in the calves after prolonged standing or walking;
  • after surgery.

How to choose the right medical socks?

The most important criterion of medical knitwear is quality. Lauma Medical compression socks are made of environmentally friendly materials, exert the necessary pressure on the leg tissues and do not lose their therapeutic properties over time.

They are presented in five sizes, so choosing the optimal model is not very difficult. The main thing to remember is that it is better to measure the circumference of the feet and shins in the morning, when the legs are not yet swollen. Also, when losing or gaining weight, compression socks should be changed (according to the new size).
