Elastic knee brace - effective and comfortable treatment for osteoarthritis of knee joints

Many people get knee pain as they get older. This is due to degenerative changes in the joints: the older a person is, the higher the risk of the disease. Knees are more likely to be affected by overweight and improper lifestyle - sedentary or, on the contrary, too active.

This condition is called “osteoarthritis of the knee joints”. The terms “osteoarthritis” or “gonarthrosis” can also be found in the medical literature.

What happens in osteoarthritis?

This disease destroys cartilage, followed by subcartilage structures, joint capsule, ligaments and muscles, and reduces the amount of synovial fluid. Spikes and protrusions - osteophytes - form on the bones.

Cartilage and synovial fluid are the “shock absorbers” of the knee joint. When they suffer, movement in the knee is restricted and the bone structures begin to touch each other. This leads to their overgrowth, the development of inflammation, tissue swelling and pain. There is a vicious circle: because of unpleasant sensations, a person spares the knee, and this, in turn, leads to slower blood circulation, reduced production of synovial fluid and progression of the disease.

Main manifestations of osteoarthritis

In the early stages of the disease, a person may be bothered only by a slight pain during active movements, but soon it intensifies and becomes permanent.
Other symptoms are also noted:

  • swelling in the area of the joint (if the synovial membrane becomes inflamed);
  • changes in the shape of the knee;
  • crunch when moving;
  • stiffness.
Without treatment, the amount of movement in the knees is limited to such an extent that the person is almost unable to move around

How do you treat osteoarthritis?

Osteoarthritis of the knee joints is usually treated conservatively with analgesics, anti-inflammatory drugs and physical therapy. In severe cases, the doctor may recommend surgery.

Painkillers are effective in eliminating discomfort, but they do not improve knee mobility and often cause adverse reactions (e.g. development of gastric and duodenal ulcers or gastrointestinal bleeding).

However, there is another treatment option that can be used at any age without the risk of complications. This is an elastic knee brace that protects the joint from overloading, but does not immobilize it.

Features of the elastic kneepad

The elastic kneepad is composed of 62% cotton, 28% latex and 10% polyamide. As a result, it has a complex effect on the knee joint:

  • unloads it and stabilizes it at the same time;
  • massages soft tissues (due to the peculiarities of the inner layer of the kneecap);
  • increases blood circulation in the knee area.

All this leads to a reduction in pain, swelling and inflammation. Movement in the knee joint is facilitated and its function is restored faster.
Since the elastic kneepad contains a large amount of cotton, it does not cause excessive sweating and discomfort regardless of the duration of wear. This bandage does not irritate or chafe the skin and is practically invisible under clothing.
