With any trauma, swelling forms in the area of the injury, which increases pain and limits the mobility of the joint. Inflammation also develops and progresses rapidly. The accumulated tissue fluid presses on vessels and nerves, disrupting blood circulation and aggravating symptoms.
Applying a medical elastic bandage creates compression on the damaged tissue, which reduces swelling, restores microcirculation and relieves pain. In addition, the medical bandage provides elastic fixation - it protects the joint from stress, but at the same time maintains a certain range of motion, which is necessary for rapid recovery.
The use of a medical elastic bandage is part of the PRICE protocol for trauma:- Protection - protecting the injured area;
- Rest - resting the limb;
- Ice - cold, ice application;
- Compression - moderate fixation compression with bandages;
- Elevation - elevated position of the limb.
