What is a supportive maternity bandage?

A support bandage is a special medical device that is shaped like a wide belt. It goes under the abdomen in the front and in the lumbar region in the back. The main function of the elastic bandage is to support the abdomen in the correct position. Thanks to this significantly reduces the load on the lumbar spine, it becomes easier for a woman to stand and walk.

Wearing a special support belt alleviates back pain - a frequent companion of the third trimester of pregnancy. It is especially difficult for expectant mothers who are carrying twins or triplets.

Does a bandage help fight stretch marks?

Yes. By keeping the abdomen in an optimal position, the elastic waistband prevents the appearance of new stretch marks and makes existing ones less visible.

Please note: stretch marks in the abdomen and back can occur in any woman, regardless of the duration of pregnancy and body care. But wearing a supportive bandage in combination with the use of special moisturizing creams can reduce the risk of these not very aesthetic skin changes.

When should I start wearing a maternity bandage?

This should be discussed with your obstetrician-gynecologist or family doctor. For some women, the abdomen may enlarge significantly as early as the fifth month of pregnancy and the back may start hurting even earlier. Others can run until the day of delivery without any discomfort in the lower back or lower abdomen.

Most often, a support bandage is recommended to be worn in the third trimester (after a doctor's examination).

How long can a bandage be worn?

A supportive maternity bandage is usually worn before physical activity, such as walking, working or other exertion. It should be removed at night, during daytime sleep or rest.

Can I wear a supportive maternity bandage after childbirth?

Yes. Wearing an elastic bandage in the postpartum period facilitates contraction of the muscles of the anterior abdominal wall and quickly restores its tone, returning the abdomen to an attractive (flat) shape.
