The first signs of varicose veins - how to recognize and treat?

When most people hear the word “varicose veins”, they picture wide, twisted veins that sometimes resemble bunches of grapes. But this is usually how the neglected stage of the disease looks, when the only method of treatment is surgery. But varicose veins begin much earlier - with the appearance of subtle and not at all alarming symptoms, which can easily be attributed to ordinary fatigue or age-related changes.

First signs of varicose veins

The first signs of varicose veins are usually considered to be heaviness in the legs, fatigue, swelling. But sometimes the disease manifests itself differently, and “under attack” fall small vessels - capillaries and veins.

Many people with age notice the appearance of “mesh” and “vascular stars” on their legs. They do not hurt, but they do not look too aesthetically pleasing, especially when they become more and more. Mesh and asterisks are the symptoms of the initial varicose veins. They are not as harmless as they seem, and can cause a person serious discomfort, because the legs with such changes can hardly be called attractive.

Vascular asterisks

The second name of vascular asterisks is telangiectasia. These are dilated capillaries that really resemble asterisks, usually red or blue-purple in color. They are not associated with inflammation, so they won't swell or hurt, but they contrast so much with normal skin that neither tanning nor cosmetics will help hide them.
Vascular asterisks appear for various reasons, but one of the most common is chronic venous insufficiency on the background of varicose veins.

Vascular mesh

Vascular mesh is visible reticular veins. Unlike “real” varicose veins, they do not yet protrude above the skin, but are already clearly visible in the form of strips of blue-violet, sometimes reddish or even greenish colors.
Vascular mesh is often adjacent to vascular asterisks and represents the next stage of the disease.

How to deal with vascular changes?

If vascular asterisks and mesh are left untreated, varicose veins will progress and eventually lead to marked vein enlargement. It is possible to remove the changes on the legs with the help of sclerotherapy or laser therapy, but this will solve the problem only temporarily.

Without a change in lifestyle and proper treatment, after a year or two, people are disappointed to notice the appearance of new vascular asterisks on the legs. That is why phlebologists strongly recommend compression knitwear at the appearance of even the most minor cosmetic changes, and even better before them - as soon as the legs begin to swell or fatigue more than usual.

Which compression hosiery should I choose?

If capillaries and veins are visible not only on the lower legs, but also on the thighs, you can't do without medical compression stockings. They create a graduated (graduated) pressure on the muscles with a maximum in the ankles and a minimum in the thighs. Due to constant and stable compression in the legs restores normal blood circulation, increases venous return and blood does not stagnate in the vessels, leading to their expansion.

In the initial stages of varicose veins, the best option is medical stockings with elastic band and toe of the first compression class (18-21 mmHg). They are made of nylon (64%) and Lycra (36%), which means they are comfortable and wear-resistant. Such compression stockings do not stretch and do not lose their therapeutic properties, and thanks to the reinforced toe and heel parts - do not tear. In addition, they are suitable for men and women and stay securely on the thighs.
