When should you choose a second compression class stocking?

Modern treatment of vein diseases is difficult to imagine without the use of compression knitwear. If earlier medical underwear was used as a supplement to traditional methods of therapy - pills, drips and surgery, now compression knitwear is considered the first and often the only method of treatment of varicose veins, chronic venous insufficiency and other vein pathologies.

What is compression hosiery for?

The main feature of such knitwear is that it creates a graduated, or staggered pressure on the leg tissues - decreasing from the ankles to the thighs. Since the veins “lift” the blood from the feet to the heart, the maximum work they have to do is in the lower part of the legs - in the area of the ankles and shins. By increasing the pressure on the tissues of the legs and, above all, on the muscles, medical knitwear contributes to a more effective contraction of veins.

The main effects of compression underwear are:

  • Improving blood flow from the legs to the heart;
  • prevention of venous stasis;
  • reduction of leg swelling, constant fatigue, feeling of heaviness and pressure in the feet and lower legs;
  • prevention of varicose veins and deep vein thrombosis, as well as treatment of these diseases - both as monotherapy and in combination with drugs or surgery.

How to choose the right compression class?

For the prevention of vein diseases usually choose knitwear compression class A (10-17 mm Hg), with mild symptoms of varicose veins or chronic venous insufficiency - socks or stockings of the first class (18-21 mm Hg), and with more pronounced - the second (23-32 mm Hg). There are also medical underwear of the third class of compression, but it is rarely used.

Important! In order not to harm your health, choose compression knitwear should be with a doctor (phlebologist or vascular surgeon). Only he can establish an accurate diagnosis and choose the right product.

Which is better: compression socks, stockings or tights?

Each type of compression underwear has its own indications for use. Socks are comfortable to wear, but they are used only when it comes to veins affecting the lower legs. If the changes spread to the thighs - vascular stars, reticular veins, varicose veins appeared, only compression stockings can help.

Doctors recommend wearing tights in case of extensive vein lesions, in addition, they can be used to treat orthostatic hypotension (reduction of pressure during a sudden change of body position).
